Bear Cubs Battle in Big 8 Action Against Solano and Delta

Santa Rosa, CA – February 27, 2026 — The Santa Rosa Junior College beach volleyball team opened Big 8 Conference play with a challenging doubleheader on Friday, facing Solano Community College and San Joaquin Delta College in a day filled with competitive rallies and hard-fought three-set matches.


Solano def. SRJC 2-3

The Bear Cubs narrowly dropped the afternoon's opening dual with Solano (2-3), earning wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions.

At the 3s, Jaiden Brooner andKiana Walker were dominant in a decisive straight-set victory over Ting/Calvelo, 21-12, 21-6. The duo controlled the net and applied steady service pressure from start to finish.

The 4s pair of Stephanie Melendez andNyejzniya Krohn delivered one of the day's most resilient performances, bouncing back after dropping the second set to secure a 21-19, 16-21, 15-7 three-set win.

Solano claimed the remaining courts. Guintu/Reyes defeated Davis/Comma at the 1s (21-15, 21-16), and Davis/Projillo topped Smart/Amand at the 2s (21-17, 21-18). Lovell/Caliboso secured the deciding point for Solano at the 5s with a 21-15, 21-19 win over McIninch/Mendoza.


Delta def. SRJC 1-4

Against Delta, the Bear Cubs battled but eventually came up short (1-4), winning in the No. 3 position. 

In the second dual of the day, the Bear Cubs again found success at the 3s spot, as Brooner/Walker continued their strong play with a gritty three-set victory over Oliviera/Silva, 21-8, 15-21, 16-14.

The 1s pair of Davis/Comma battled against Gray/Beers T. but fell in straight sets (21-10, 21-18). At the 2s, Smart/Amand captured the opening set before Delta's Bocage/Yarabrough rallied to take the match 18-21, 21-18, 15-5.

Melendez/Krohn were edged at the 4s (22-20, 21-9), while McIninch/Mendoza fought through another three-set contest at the 5s before narrowly falling 16-21, 21-18, 15-12.


Looking Ahead

Despite the results, the Bear Cubs showcased resilience and growth throughout the day, competing in four three-set matches across the two duals. The consistent production from the 3s pair highlights SRJC's depth and competitive edge as conference play continues.

The Bear Cubs will look to regroup in practice and prepare for another Big 8 dual against Cosumnes River College and Sacramento City College at home on Friday, March 6th.
