San Mateo, Calif. — The Santa Rosa Junior College beach volleyball team secured a hard-fought 3–2 win over College of San Mateo on Friday, showcasing resilience and depth across the lineup in a tightly contested dual.
Santa Rosa held an advantage behind strong performances at the top of the order. In the No. 1 pair, Katie Davis and Lily Comma earned a straight-set victory over Williams and Gaffney of San Mateo, winning 21-15 and 21-19 to put the Bear Cubs on the board.
Momentum continued at the No. 2 spot as Luka Amand and Amber Smart battled through three sets to defeat Duran and Gamez, 21-15, 15-21, 15-13. The decisive third set highlighted Santa Rosa's composure under pressure as the pair closed out the match.
The clinching point came from the No. 3 pairs, where Kiana Walker and Jaiden Brooner rallied after dropping the opening set to Hernandez and Lee. The Bear Cubs duo responded with a dramatic 22-20 second-set win before sealing the match 15-11 in the third to secure the team victory.
College of San Mateo earned its two points in the dual. At No. 4, Turner and Agresti edged Stephanie Melendez and Nyejzniya Krohn in a tightly contested three-set match, 21-18, 18-21, 16-14. San Mateo followed with a straight set win at No. 5, as Hunt and Saluni defeated Issa McIninch and Eve Mendoza, 21-15, 21-10.
With the 3–2 victory, Santa Rosa Junior College continues to build momentum in the preseason, demonstrating competitive balance and the ability to close out close matches against strong opposition.
