SRJC Beach Volleyball Opens Program & Season with Dominant 2–0 Sweep on Opening Day

Folsom, CA — The Santa Rosa Junior College Beach Volleyball team kicked off its season in impressive fashion, earning two strong victories on opening day with wins over Shasta College and Butte College.

The Bear Cubs opened the day with a 4–1 victory over Shasta, showcasing depth and resilience across the lineup. The No. 1 pair of Katie Davis and Lily Comma set the tone with a straight-set win, 21–12, 21–17. Amber Smart and Luka Amand delivered a commanding performance at the No. 2 spot, winning 21–11, 21–6.

SRJC also picked up key points from Nyejzniya Krohn and Stephanie Melendez, who won 21–15, 21–14, and Eve Mendoza and Issa McIninch, who secured a tight victory at the No. 5 position, 21–18, 21–17. The No. 3 pair of Kiana Walker and Jaiden Brooner battled through a thrilling three-set match, narrowly falling 18–21, 21–11, 15–17.

In the second match of the day, SRJC continued its momentum with a decisive 5–0 sweep over Butte College. The Bear Cubs were dominant across all five flights, highlighted by another strong showing at the top of the lineup.

"This was an exciting way to open the season and the program," said Head Coach Ally Sather. "Our pairs competed with confidence, energy, and great teamwork. Opening day is always a test, and I'm proud of how we responded in every flight."

With the strong start, the Bear Cubs look ahead to building on early success as they continue preseason play and prepare for their upcoming matches on Friday, February 6th, against West Valley College and Lassen College, hosted by College of Marin.
