Tommy Wong-Araki – Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator – 1st Season
Tommy Wong-Araki joined the Santa Rosa Junior College indoor volleyball coaching staff in the fall of 2021, bringing a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the program. A native of Roseville, CA, Wong-Araki discovered his passion for volleyball at the age of 12. He went on to attend Oakmont High School, where he was instrumental in leading his team to back-to-back league championships during his junior and senior seasons, earning All-League honors along the way.
Continuing his volleyball career at Sonoma State University, Wong-Araki competed for the nationally ranked SSU Men’s Club Team. During his tenure, the team consistently ranked in the top 10 of the NCVF Division 2 standings, earning two silver medals at nationals over a three-year span. It was at SSU that he found his passion for coaching, which has since become a defining aspect of his career.
For the past decade, Wong-Araki has served as the head coach of the JV team at Cardinal Newman High School, maintaining a winning record in both league and overall play each season. He also assists with the Cardinal Newman Beach Volleyball Team, expanding his coaching expertise across both indoor and beach volleyball.
Beyond high school programs, Wong-Araki has been an integral part of club volleyball, coaching for eight seasons, including six years with Empire Volleyball Club. In 2022, while leading the Empire 18-1’s team, he guided them to a 2nd-place finish in the 18’s division of the WCVBA Power League and secured top-five finishes in four additional tournaments throughout the season.
His coaching resume also includes a return to Sonoma State in 2016 as an assistant coach for the men’s club team, where he helped the program achieve national finishes of 5th and 9th over two seasons.
Since joining SRJC, Wong-Araki has played a key role in the program’s continued growth and success.
