Eubanks and Washington Power Bear Cubs Past Mission, 83–43

             Three days after defeating the visiting Corsairs of the College of the Redwoods, the Bear Cubs (6-2) hosted the Saints (4-4) of Mission College of Santa Clara. Fourteen seconds into the contest, Jordan Washington passed down to Kaia Eubanks, who banked in the 1-footer. Nearly a minute later, Eubanks passed back out to Elle Picard to swish a 14-footer. Ashjeet Kaur drove down the right side past a couple of defenders, banking in a layup, to get the Saints on the scoreboard. Washington dropped in a 14-footer, and the next time down, Picard drained a 3-pointer for a 9-2 lead at the 7:05 mark. After Alyssa Lopez's basket, Eubanks scored eight unanswered points on two free throws, a 4-footer and a backcut layup off of passes from Picard, and a fast break layup after catching Shasta Vlasak's long pass. Snowe Deleon added three points on one of two free throws and a basket their next time down. Eubanks caught a pass from Hattie Piper next to the hoop and sank the shot with 3:41 on the clock. Eleven seconds later Gabbie Garrodette drove through the defended key and made a layup. Hailey Webb and Shasta Vlasak hit back-to-back 3-pointers. Lopez then made one from beyond the arc, too. Washington added two more points on two trips to the free throw line, making the Bear Cubs' advantage 27-12 by the end of the quarter.

            The Bear Cubs made their first two shots of the second quarter—Jordan Washington's pick-and-roll layup with Elle Picard's assist and Caitlin Baldwin's 1-footer on a cut to the hoop and pass from Madyson Carson. Gabbie Garrodette sank a field goal at the 8:47 mark. The Bear Cubs put together an 11-0 run on two 3-pointers in a row by Baldwin, Shasta Vlasak's 3-pointer, and Picard's 8-foot pullup jumper for a 42-14 margin with 5:31 on the clock. Snowe Deleon drew a shooting foul a little over a minute later and made both free throws. Anabel Arcilla drained a 3-pointer from near the right corner after catching Hattie Piper's pass from the wing with 3:00 remaining. During the remainder of the period, Alyssa Lopez made a field goal, while the Bear Cubs missed all five of their shots. By halftime the Bear Cubs were ahead 45-18.

            After missing their first shot of the third quarter, the Bear Cubs then made six out of their next seven attempts—Caitlin Baldwin's back cut and reverse after catching Kaia Eubanks' assist, Elle Picard's layup after cutting and Jordan Washington's assist, Washington's jumper from just about the free throw line, Eubanks' 1-footer off of Shasta Vlasak's pass, Baldwin's cut and 1-footer off of another Vlasak assist, and Washington's layup after Eubanks' steal and long pass from Vlasak—to extend their lead to 57-22 at the 5:50 mark. Twenty-five seconds later, Snowe Deleon sank a field goal. Sydney Martin put back her own miss with 4:38 on the clock. Martin made one of two free throws and then so did Deleon. Mo Martinez swished a 3-pointer, Picard hit a 6-foot pullup jumper, Deleon also sank one from beyond the arc, and Washington scored on a give-and-go play with Picard, making the Bear Cubs' lead 64-31 with 1:18 left. In the final minute, Washington hit an 8-foot pullup jumper and two free throws, while Maylin Wong also made two free throws, putting the score at 68-33.

            Kaia Eubanks dropped in a 1-footer off a baseline inbounds pass from Anabel Arcilla after nearly two minutes of scoreless fourth quarter play. Maylin Wong sank an 8-footer on the Saints' next possession. Eubanks made three shots in a row—a 4-footer on another baseline inbounds pass from Arcilla, a drive from the mid-post, and a drive from the top of the key at the 6:12 mark—while the Saints added two points on Alyssa Lopez's basket. Gabby Gerrodette made two free throws and Wong one, before Hattie Piper's 1-footer on a cut and assist from Madyson Carson. Lopez's 3-pointer with 3:14 on the clock completed the Saints' scoring. Jordan Washington ended with two more baskets—a full court layup after pulling down a defensive rebound and a give-and-go play with Bennett Gaylord—making the final score 83-43.

            The Bear Cubs passed for a season-high 24 assists. Guards and forwards were able to successfully complete give-and-go plays with sharp cuts and passes. The Bear Cubs made 10 out of 18 shots (56%) in the first quarter and 10 out of 16 (63%) in the third, finishing with 34 out of 66 (52%) for the game. Two Saints finished in double figures; Snowe Deleon with 13 and Alyssa Lopez with 12.

            Four Bear Cubs reached double figures: Kaia Eubanks with a season-high 22 points, Jordan Washington 20, Caitlin Baldwin with a season-high 12, and Elle Picard 11. Jordan Washington registered her sixth double-double with 12 rebounds to go along with her 20 points on 8 out of 9 from the field and 4 out of 6 from the free throw line. Shasta Vlasak added 6 points, Anabel Arcilla, Sydney Martin, and Hailey Webb 3 each, and Hattie Piper 2. Elle Picard led in assists with 5. Jordan Washington blocked 5 shot
