The Santa Rosa Junior College women's volleyball team kicked off their 2025-26 season with a strong showing, securing three wins out of four matches in a busy opening weekend.

On August 22, the Bear Cubs started their campaign with two impressive victories. They first defeated Redwoods in a straight-set match (3-0), demonstrating solid teamwork with 29 kills and 26 assists. The team's serving was particularly effective, notching 7 aces. Defensively, they were equally impressive with 56 digs and 2 blocks.

Later that same day, SRJC continued their winning streak against San Jose, again in straight sets (3-0). The team showed improved offensive efficiency with a .232 hitting percentage, racking up 27 kills. Their serving game was even more dominant in this match, with an impressive 13 aces.

The following day, August 23, brought mixed results for the Bear Cubs. They faced a tough opponent in Taft, suffering their first loss of the season in straight sets (0-3). Despite the setback, the team managed 19 kills and showed resilience with 60 receptions and 33 digs.

However, SRJC bounced back spectacularly in their final match of the weekend against Napa Valley. The Bear Cubs secured another 3-0 victory with their most dominant performance yet. They recorded a season-high 45 kills with an outstanding .373 hitting percentage. The team's all-around play was evident with 35 assists, 6 aces, and a whopping 60 digs.

Standout performances across the weekend were led by freshman middle blocker Nyejzniya Krohn who wracked up 33 kills in the 4 matches, hitting .443 on the weekend. Sophomore libero Amber Smart held down the defense with an impressive 62 digs and sophomore setter Lily Comma ran a smooth offense, with 82 assists respectively.

Head Coach Sather commented, "I'm proud of how our team performed this weekend. We showed great potential and resilience, especially in bouncing back from our loss to finish strong against Napa Valley. There's still work to do, but this is a promising start to our season."

The Bear Cubs will look to build on this early success as they continue their non-conference schedule this Friday at Lemoore College, with matches at 12pm and 2pm.
