SRJC showed out at the 3C2A State Championship hosted by Sierra College on 12/12 &12/13, taking home 5 medals including three All Americans and one State Champion. Sophomore Ali Hamzia (174) finished in 8th place after defeating Jacob Longcrier of Mt. SAC in sudden victory 8-5 to advance to the medal round top 8. David Sypnicki (165) finished in 7th place after defeating Mt SAC's Wendell Mitchell with a fall at 4:06 in his final match as a Bear Cub.  After dropping a close match to Moorpark's William Fulguentes, 6-2 in the semi finals, Sophomore Joe Ellis (197) battled back to earn the 4th place medal and All American honors defeating Cerritos College's Nelson Ramirez with a fall in 4:23. Freshman Ryan George (197) rattled off five wins over the tournament to finish in 3rd place and All American honors with a record of 5-1. After losing in the quarter finals, Ryan wrestled tough finishing with four straight wins. Freshman Connor Jeong (125) won the 3C2A State Championship and All American honors at 125lbs with a perfect 4-0 tournament record defeating Cerritos College's Adrian Jimenez 14-5 in the semi finals and Fresno City's Alijah Ortiz 4-2, in a match that came down to the final seconds. Jeong's 1st place finish is SRJC's first state champion in almost 15 years. The Bear Cubs finished #7 as a team in the state just 2.5 points from 5th place. Other notable contributions came from Erickson Edpao (133), Chase Claassen (141), Lucas Wold (149), John Reg (157), Barrett Carrancho (184), & Asher Nischke (285). Classen & Nischke both made the blood round but fell just short for the medals 8-9 & 5-10 respectively. The Bear Cubs will be looking to improve next year with a solid core of freshmen.
