Bear Cubs earns 4 medals, 1 All-American at the 3C2A State Championship

The Bear Cubs competed tough on 12/13 & 12/14 at Lemoore College for the 3C2A State Championship, ultimately earning four medals, including one All-American Honors. The team, with a freshman heavy lineup, was able to get 9 into the blood round with four advancing into the medal rounds on 12/14. Derek Ruffin (125) was the first to advance with a 12-6 win over Sierra's Jesus Juarez. Ruffin finished in 7th place after winning his last match against Cerritos' Jesse Hernandez by Fall. Erickson Edpao (133) also advanced to the medal rounds after defeating Cuesta's Daimen Rodriguez 6-1.  Edpao finished in 8th place after losing his last match against the North Region #1 ranked wrestler, Dustin Merlos. Vicente Rodarte (149) was next to advance to the medal round with a 12-5 score over Sierra's Brock Birkett.  Rodarte finished in 8th place after losing his last match against Matthias Valdez of Victor Valley. Last to medal for the Bear Cubs was Rayhan Jaleel (197) who, after losing in the quarterfinals, battled all the way back to earn the 3rd place medal with wins over, Fresno, Rio Hondo, Bakersfield, and Palomar. Jaleel earned All American Honors for the second year in a row and will be looking to transfer next year. The other Bear Cubs that battled but ended up losing in the blood round were Ali Hamzia (141), Karmine Berndt (141), Zac Morgan (174), Jesus Anguiano (184), & Joe Ellis (197). Ikaika Madayag (157) and Aiden Riddleberger (285) also wrestled great matches but were eliminated from the tournament on day 1. In the final team ranking, SRJC was ranked #8 in the state of CA.
