Tanner, was born in Seattle, Washington and graduated in 2012 from Roosevelt High School in her hometown. She was named All-League First Team King County her senior year while leading the league in assists with 5.0 per game. From 2012 to 2016, Tanner continued her basketball career at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park. At Sonoma State, Tanner served as a captain for her team from 2013-2016. In her junior season, she broke the school record for most 3-pointers in a game (7 on 11/25/14) and was named to the CCAA All-Academic Team her junior and senior years. In the spring of 2016, Tanner graduated from Sonoma State University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Shortly thereafter, she began working towards her Master’s degree in Sport Management from the University of San Francisco. At the same time she served as an Assistant Coach for the Sonoma State Women’s Basketball team during the 2016-2017 season. Following that season, Tanner moved to San Francisco to finish her last year of grad school while taking on the Graduate Assistant position for the USF Women’s Basketball team from 2017-2018. In the summer of 2018, Tanner moved back up to Santa Rosa to join the Bear Cub coaching staff for the 2018-2019 season.
