Craig McMillan enters his 25th season at the helm of SRJC’s Men’s Basketball program. Since arriving at Santa Rosa, McMillan has led the Bear Cubs to one state title (2014) and twelve conference titles.
Coach McMillan came to SRJC after coaching overseas. He was the head coach of professional teams in Kuwait and Lebanon for a total of four seasons. Prior to his experience abroad, he spent eight seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Tennessee, Marquette University and the University of Arizona. McMillan was a starting guard for the Arizona Wildcats Final Four team in 1988 and he helped lead Cloverdale High School to back-to-back state titles while playing for his father at Cloverdale High School.
“I am really happy with the high caliber of players we have been able to attract and the success they have brought to the program.” Nearly every player who has played two seasons for Coach McMillan has earned their degree.
During Coach McMillan’s tenure at SRJC his teams have won two Bay Valley Conference Championships, seven Big 8 Championships and have made the playoffs nearly every year. Nine years ago he guided the Bear Cubs to the first State Championship in school history and was selected Coach of the Year from the North. His overall record is 439-213
The 2013-2014 Bear Cubs compiled an overall record of 26-8 and 12-2 in conference play, bringing his SRJC coaching record to 300-143 overall. Under McMillan’s leadership SRJC men’s basketball has made four consecutive appearances at the CCCAA Elite 8. Santa Rosa capped off their runs of final 8 appearances by winning the 2014 State Championship.
McMillan is a faculty member in the Kinesiology, Athletics and Dance Department and has taught and coached at SRJC since Fall 2000. Prior to taking over at SRJC, McMillan coached professionally abroad for four seasons in Lebanon and Kuwait. Before coaching abroad McMillan was an assistant coach at The University of Tennessee and Marquette University.
McMillan played for his father at Cloverdale High School and helped guide the Eagles to consecutive State Titles in 1983 and 1984. He went on to play for Lute Olson at The University of Arizona and helped guide the Wildcats to two Pac-10 crowns and to the NCAA Final Four in 1988.
McMillan graduated Arizona with a Bachelors Degree in Economics and also has earned Masters degrees from Marquette University in Sociology and from the United States Sports Academy in Physical Education.
