The Women's Cross Country Team traveled up north last weekend to the College of the Redwoods for the Second Annual Beat the Heat Invitational.  A great team bonding experience, the team camped out on campus the night before among the redwoods.  Though a full team did not travel to Eureka, Luz Sanchez-Huerta and Erica Ruiz were up to the challenge.  Tempo-ing the first two miles, Huerta and Ruiz ran side-by-side in the 6th and 7th position before throwing down the hammer in the last mile of the 3.1 mile race to finish in the top four.  Ruiz finished her first collegiate race in second behind a very strong runner from Butte.  Huerta finished not far behind in fourth place.  The ladies are hungry for more and, with a full team, will really shake things up again this year.
