Volleyball goes 5-0 on the week!

The SRJC volleyball team finished the week 5-0, getting big wins over Hartnell, Mission, Cosumnes River, Cabrillo and Butte College.

The Bear Cubs won a 4 set battle at Hartnell College Wednesday, with scores of 25-21, 19-25, 52-22 and 25-19. They were led by Tallulah Kuula and her 15 kills, followed by Destiny Clark with 11 kills. Violet Johnson had a team high of 24 kills and 6 service aces. Following that match, the Cubs rolled through Mission College with a convincing 3 set win with scores of 25-7, 25-11 and 25-8.

Friday night the Bear Cubs begun conference play, hosting Cosumnes River College. SRJC came out firing with a convincing 25-13 first set. The Hawks came out ready to go set two, winning 25-17. But, the Cubs battled back taking set three 25-14 and set four 25-20. They were led by Kuula with 16 kills, hitting an impressive .400 on the match, followed by Ingrid Jungferman who added 6 kills and an even more impressive hitting percentage of .857.

Saturday afternoon begun the tough SRJC Classic, hosting Cabrillo and Butte Colleges. SRJC started the day with a tough match against the Cabrillo Seahawks, ultimately prevailing in 4 sets with scores of 25-22, 25-18, 22-25 and 25-15. The Cubs were led by Kuula with 15 Kills, Clark with 7 kills and Johnson with an impressive 33 digs.

They then followed with an epic 5 set battle with the Butte College Roadrunners, prevailing 25-19, 24-26, 25-15, 22-25 and 19-17. Kuula led the bear cubs with a season high 23 kills, while Johnson added a season high 41 digs and Payton Jones had a career high of 47 assists.

SRJC is now 8-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play. They head back to action Wednesday, September 25th for a conference match up with Diablo Valley College.
