Volleyball Goes 2-0 at West Valley Classic

SRJC Volleyball thrived at the West Valley College Classic on Wednesday, September 17th. The Bear Cubs faced West Valley College first and defeated the Vikings 25-18, 25-12 and 25-20. SRJC had a rocky start in the third set trailing behind by six points, but they showed their mental toughness and solid teamwork by taking control and finishing the match. Emily Bonfigli led her team with 27 assists, 6 digs, and 2 aces. Sophomore libero Becca Steiner added 13 digs and 2 aces to help her team earn the win.

Taft College was on the agenda next for the Bear Cubs who defeated the Cougars in four sets. The first two sets went 25-22 with SRJC dropping the third set 23-25. In the fourth set the Bear Cubs came out determined to finish the match which ended with a score of 25-17. Libero Steiner helped with her 17 digs to Bonfigli who had 42 assists and 7 digs. Paula Clarey and Briana Ortiz added 21 kills as well to help the team to victory. SRJC faces off against Gavilan (11am) and Fresno (1pm) in Gilroy on Saturday, September 20th. Go Bear Cubs!
