Bear Cub Women Take 2nd At Big 8 Championships; King Wins Field Athlete of the Meet

The Bear Cub women took 2nd place overall (124 points) out of seven teams at the Big 8 Conference Track & field Championships, following 1st place Sacramento City College with 175 points. American River took 3rd with 120 points.

Congratulations to Eva King for a great performance at the Big 8 Conference Championships. She won Field Athlete of the Meet and took 1st place in the Long Jump (16'10.75"), a season's best 2nd in the Triple Jump (36'-3.5") and 3rd in the High Jump (4'-9").

The 2nd place Team finish was no surprise, due to consistent performances throughout the season and top-4 finishes in several events. Sheena Blackwell took 1st place in the 100-meter Hurdles with a 15.22-second performance. 2nd place finishers include Ally Franzen-Milone in the Discus (132'-4"), Destiny Williams in the 200 (25.56) and 400 (57.73), Angie Law in the 1500 (5:06.97) and Ana Drake-Tripp in the Steeplechase (12:35.0).

Wrapping up a great day of competition are 4th place finishers Mickie Suega in the Discus (120'-7") and the 4x100 team (Williams, Blackwell, Stewart, Flores), with a time of 49.24 Seconds.

Nor ,Cal Qualifiers will compete on Thursday, May 4th (10K); Friday May 5th for trials and Saturday, May 13th for the finals at DeAnza College in Cupertino.
