The Bear Cubs took a short trip down to the College of Marin for a four-way meet between Santa Rosa, Marin, Sac City, and Yuba College last weekend. Personal records and near school records were the highlights of the meet for SRJC.

Distance runners Erica Ruiz and Luz Sanchez took control of the long events at the meet. Completing the double, Ruiz and Sanchez finished first and second in both the 1500m and the 5000m. Sanchez's time in the 5000m was good enough to rank her number 3 in the Big 8, twenty seconds behind Ruiz, who is ranked 2nd from a race earlier in the season. Julia Grimm was at it again getting the win in the High Jump and the Javelin. Crushing a huge personal record of 41.52m (136'3") in the Jave, Grimm is now ranked number one in the Big 8 and northern California, and third in the state. Throwers Courtney Rhoda and Daisey Villegas also had solid meets both hitting collegiate personal records in the Shot Put and the Discus.

The Bear Cubs will split up next week with most of the team heading to San Mateo for the Bob Rush Invitational, while a small group will travel to Sacramento State to compete against the big girls at the Hornet Invite.
