The SRJC women were led by standout freshman backstroker Katie Morrision and four veteran swimmers Reilly Clarkson, Molly Daivs, Mary Khattar, and Alex Langley at the Big 8 Conference Championships last weekend at Diablo Valley College.
Morrison proved herself to be one of the best sub-minute backstrokers in the state finishing 3rd in the 100, 2nd in the 200, and fifth overall in the 50 free. Sophomore teammates Langley (2nd-100 Breast, 3rd-200 Breast) and Khattar (3rd-50 Free) also had top 3 finishes in their events as well. Team captain Reilly Clarkson had three 6th place finishes in the 200 and 400 IM and the 200 Back. SRJC showed their strength in the backstroke with three top 8 finishes in the 200 from Morrison, Clarkson, and Davis. Davis also demonstrated her stamina on day 3 pulling a nasty double competing in both the Mile (4th), and the 200 Back (8th).
These five women will represent SRJC at the State Championship Meet next week May 2-4, at De Anza College in Cupertino, having qualified in all of their individual events and all five relays.
