It has been a busy month for the Bear Cubs.  After the Alumni Meet and a strong performance at the Cuesta Invitational in early March, the SRJC women upped their training and racing game competing in four meets in three weeks including:

At the Big 8 Invite hosted by Delta College, the Cubs looked to refine their skills and get familiar with the pool that will host the Big 8 Conference Championships April 20-22. At the meet Taylor Sargis was a double event winner and set a new school record in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:23.97. This is also the fastest time in the state so far this season.

Hailey Vance advanced to the championship round of the 50 Free Shoot-Out at the ARC Sprint Pentathlon.  Going undefeated in the opening round (25.94), the quarter-finals (26.07), and the semi (25.27), Vance lost to Claudia Guillory of Sierra (24.90) and took 2nd overall with a personal best of 25.12.  Sargis won the overall women's pentathlon title after finishing first overall in the 200 IM, the 100 Fly, the 100 Breast, 3rd in the 100 Back, and 6th in the 50 Free.

Swimming back-to-back meets, the Cubs traveled to Livermore to get a few more distance events in at the Las Positas/Sierra Double Dual.  At the meet Vance and Annika Erickson went 1,2 in the 200 Free; Jasmine Alger won the 200 Fly; Lucia Mora and Mary Lane went 2,3 in the 500 Free; Sargis and Mora went 1,2 in the 200 Breast, and the relay time of Vance, Sargis, Erikson and Mora won the 400 Free Relay with a state qualifying time of 3:45.19.

Finally, this past weekend, SRJC finished the month with the two-day Hawk Invite at Las Positas College.  SRJC women finished 2nd overall out of 14 teams. Mora set a new meet record in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:28.65.  She also won the overall Breaststroke title with her 1st place finish in the 200 and her 2nd place finish in the 100.  Sargis won three of her four events including the 50 Free, 100 Breast, and the 100 Fly.  She was also the runner-up in the 200 IM.  And freshman IMer Mary Lane won the overall IM title with a first place finish in the 400 and a 3rd place finish in the 200.

The Cubs will compete in their final regular season meet on Saturday, April 8th at Chabot College in Hayward, and then they will advance to the Big 8 Swimming Championships in Stockon.
