Women's Soccer: Bear Cubs beat Modesto and get redemption at home

The Bear Cubs came out strong on Friday, September 30th facing the Modesto Junior College Pirates. Play occurred mostly on the Pirates defending end as the Bear Cubs went up 1-0 in the fifteenth minute. Amanda Galbraith would grab the assist as she passed the ball to Megan Stavish, who then took a shot thirty yards outside of the box to beat Modesto Keeper Ayana Estrella on her right side.

The second goal for the Bear Cubs would again come from the foot of Amanda Galbraith, as she grabbed another assist. Galbraith would take the Bear Cub corner and find the head of Center back Nikki Elliott to put the Bear Cubs up 2-0.

Modesto had one shot attempt from Helena Hoover and strong runs down the center of the Bear Cub defense from Jamilecxth Becerra, but the Bear Cubs would hold the line and shut down any chance that came into the box. Before the half would end, Pricilla Villalobos would send a through ball to Amanda Galbraith, who then took on Pirate Keeper Ayana Estrella 1v1 to beat her with a left footed rocket into the back of the net to end the half.

The second half, the Pirates seemed to have a little more spark in their play. However, the Bear Cubs would have more chances on goal and take control of possession. The battle would go back in forth until the eighty-third minute. Gabbi Lemos would send a perfect ball to Amanda Galbraith, who was making a run on the right side of the Pirates defensive line. Galbraith would go 1v1 with the Pirate Keeper and beat her to end to game 4-0 for the Bear Cubs.

Next week the Bear Cubs will travel to Sacramento City College on Tuesday, October 4th and will be back at home Tuesday, October 11th to face American River College at 3:30pm.
