Tough fight for the Bear Cubs coming up short against Cosumnes River College 2-1

Tuesday, September 20th the Bear Cubs traveled to Cosumnes River College to face the Lady Hawks. The first half both teams had even shooting attempts at three shots each. Shots came from Averen Calvin for Cosumnes River and the Bear Cubs had shots from Amanda Galbraith, Gabbi Lemos, and Nikki Elliott. The half ended 0-0.

In the second half, both teams were in for a scrappy game, as each team wanted to score. Cosumnes struck first with a goal by Ariel Klink in the sixty-seventh minute. Lauren Azevedo sent a ball in towards the Bear Cub keeper Ali Miller on a set piece. After the ball jumbled around, Klink knocked it in to score first. The Bear Cubs fired back with a great build up from the midfield starting with Nikki Elliott, who passed the ball to Amanda Galbraith who then one touched it to Pricilla Villalobos. Villalobos volleyed the ball for a left footed shot into the back of the net to beat the Hawks keeper Elizabeth Kowalczyk in the eighty-first minute.

Cosumnes would have the final score of the game after a red card was given to Bear Cub keeper Ali Miller. The Hawks were given a free kick just outside of the box. Ariel Klink beat the Bear Cub wall by kicking the ball low, which then beat keeper, Bailey Cahill to win the game in the eighty-fourth minute.

The Bear Cubs face Delta College at home on Friday, September 23rd at 1:30pm.
