The Bear Cubs return only two starters from last year's team. The returning lettermen are Fred Duerr at 197 lbs and Quintton Bowlds at 285lbs. Duerr placed 8th in state at 197 lbs last year while Bowlds placed at heavy weight in every tournament leading up to the regional meet.
The team is divided between the younger true freshmen and several older guys that are returning to the sport. The young guns likely to start include Tyler Poallilo (125 lbs) a redshirt freshman and state champion from Reno, Nevada; true freshman Kevin Walther (133 lbs) a section placer from Terra Linda; and true freshman Anthony Gemini (141 lbs) a North Coast Section champion from El Molino. The "older guys" looking to start include two time high school state qualifier Taryn Christianson (174 lbs); and a red shirt sophomore from El Molino Jaylyn Hall (184 lbs) a 2009 graduate of Montgomery HS.
The Bear Cubs will have their annual Blue and White inter-squad scrimmage on Friday September 4th. The action starts at 4:00 PM in Tauzer Gym. The team takes to the road to open the season on Wednesday September 16th at San Joaquin Delta College in a double dual where they face Shasta and host Delta College.
