  • 2011 CCCAA State Champions

In March of 2011, the SRJC Women's Basketball Team, led by head coach Lacey Campbell, won the CCCAA State Championship by defeating City College of San Francisco. The Bear Cubs started the year with a 5-4 record going into the Christmas break; after that point, Santa Rosa won 21 of their last 23 games. The Bear Cubs, in SRJC's first State Final since the 1988 team won it all, became the first non-no. 1 seed from the north to win the State Championship. That year only four teams qualified for the State Tournament—two teams from the north and two teams from the south. In the first round, the Bear Cubs, who were seeded no. 2 in the north and ranked no. 10 in the state with an overall record of 26-6, upset the no. 1 seed from the south, Mt. San Antonio College, 56-55. All season long the Bear Cubs won games because of their stingy team defense. In the championship game, the Bear Cubs' defensive pressure kept the San Francisco offense, which had come into the game averaging over 75 points per game, off balance. The Bear Cubs held a 26-23 lead at the half. In the second half, the Bear Cubs built up an eight point lead and held on for a 52-45 victory—the lowest scoring final game in tournament history. Sophomore point guard Mia Greco scored 16 points and was selected MVP of the Tournament. Freshmen teammates Jen Tsurumoto, who scored 12 points against CCSF and 20 against Mt. SAC, and top rebounder Ashley Morgan, were selected to the All-Tournament Team. Coach Lacey Campbell was named Coach of the Year from the North.
