Title: Pole Vault Coach

Jim McCray enters his 40th season with the Bear Cubs. McCray is a faculty member in the Kinesiology Dance and Athletic Department. McCray is also a life-guarding and First Aid/CPR instructor.

McCray started his coaching career at Piner High School as a pole vault and field event coach. In his 40 years as a pole vault coach at SRJC, he has coached both men's and women's school record holders, six NorCal Champions, a number of All Americans, and one state champion.

McCray attended Piner High School, where he competed in track and field where he held the school record at 12'2". After graduating he attended SRJC and competed in track and field where he was a former school record holder in the pole vault at 14'2". He later transferred to Sacramento State University to compete in track and field.

McCray graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Resources with a minor in Biology from Sacramento State University. He also holds a lifetime credential in both Physical Education and Natural Resources.

McCray is the retired Deputy Director of the Sonoma County Regional Parks. In his free time, Coach Mac competes in triathlons and is an avid abalone diver.
