Men's Soccer 2014 Conference Champions - Season Highlights

The SRJC's Men's Soccer team started the 2014 season as a group of individuals. The Bear Cubs struggled to find a successful line up and style, and the season started with a few close losses. On September 9th they traveled to Lake Tahoe to play in the Lake Tahoe Community College Invitational Tournament where they were excited to face Fresno City. This was a hugely anticipated game that would show what the team was really made of. During that weekend, they bonded and came together; and after an intense game with Fresno, the Cubs came away with a draw. After the Tahoe trip, the team grew closer, and this carried onto the field where they did not lose a game for most of October. As conference play was coming to a close, they were set to play Cosumnes River College for what would be the conference title. The team came through with Omar Nuno scoring in the second minute and leading the team to a 5-0 victory. The Bear Cubs then travelled to Tahoe again to play Lake Tahoe Community College in the first round of playoffs. The game was a tough, physical game and in the first twenty minutes, Adrian Calderon was injured on a questionable tackle. This inspired the team to play hard and the game went all the way to double overtime with no score. The team then lost in penalty kicks. The team was successful on the field in winning the Big 8 Conference title, and ended with a record of 10-5-6.
