San Mateo (Sept. 19, 2016) – Riverside City College and Saddleback College split the first place votes with eight apiece but RCC held onto the No 1 spot by two points in this week's JC Athletic Bureau's statewide poll of California Community College football coaches. Riverside beat Bakersfield, 45-7, and Saddleback downed Los Angeles Harbor, 46-14, last week.

Ventura, Santa Rosa, Fullerton, and Long Beach each moved up one position this week to rank No. 3 through No. 6. Fourth-ranked Santa Rosa is the top Northern California team and the lone unbeaten National Division team in the region. Riverside, Saddleback, Ventura, Fullerton, and Grossmont all remain unbeaten in the south. That will change Saturday with No. 1 Riverside playing at No. 3 Ventura, which has a state-leading 8-game win streak. Other match-ups among top 20 teams include: No. 5 Fullerton at No. 8 Mt San Antonio, No. 2 Saddleback at No. 20 El Camino and No. 15 Canyons at No. 6 Long Beach.

Non-conference competition also continues in the north with No. 5 Santa Rosa at No. 19 Sacramento and defending state champion No. 7 CCSF hosting Chabot in a rematch of the 2015 NorCal title game. Other top Saturday contests include No. 9 American River at No. 11 Fresno and No. 24 San Mateo at No. 10 Butte. League play gets underway in the American Division with a match-up of unbeatens: Los Medanos at No. 22 Shasta -- which has a division leading 7-game win streak.
