Empire notebook: More SRJC baseball players head to Division 1 schools

The Santa Rosa Junior College baseball team is sending two more of its athletes on to Division 1 programs.

Sophomores Weston Bryan, an All-Big 8 infielder for the Bear Cubs, is headed to the University of Central Arkansas, a Div. 1 program in Conway, Ark., while pitcher Kyle Mitchell is going to Div. 1 University of Hawaii to play.

Bryan played his prep baseball at Casa Grande High, while Mitchell prepped at Vintage High in Napa.

POWER SOCCER GROWS BEYOND SRJC

The existing Santa Rosa Junior College power soccer team, the Rolling Bears, is expanding. Prospective players no longer need be a SRJC student, according to team organizers.

Power soccer, played by athletes who use motorized wheelchairs on a converted basketball court, will be played locally at Sebastopol Community Center. Practices are Thursdays 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the community center, 390 Morris St., Sebastopol.
