Panthers win an OT Thriller on Sophomore night over 1st place Santa Rosa

The Panthers (ranked 16 in the state) on Sophomore night won a thriller Tuesday by defeating #10 Santa Rosa 69-62 in overtime on Valentine's Day. The Panthers were down by 5 with 25 seconds to play in regulation when Michael Wadsworth found Gabe Serna who knocked down a 3 to cut it to 2. After SRJC missed one of two free throws, David King came of a screen, took a pass from Jhalen Lumpkins and knocked down a three to tie the game with 13 seconds left. The Panthers, who held Santa Rosa without a field goal in overtime, scored the final 9 points of the overtime period to win on sophomore night.

 

KJ Duronslet led the Panthers with 16 points, while Serna added 14 and Lumpkins finished with13. Sac City is now second place at 9-4 in the Big 8 and 17-10 overall this season.  The Panthers close out their Big 8 schedule at American River Thursday at 7:30 PM. City with a win and lose by SRJC would finish tied for first in the conference standings at 10-4.
