Despite holding the lead at halftime, the Sierra College football team dropped its final regular season game 17-14 to Santa Rosa at home on Saturday, falling to 5-5.

The Wolverines opened the game with a six-play 70-yard drive resulting in a 21-yard touchdown run by Elijah Reed to jump out to an early 7-0 lead. After allowing 10 straight points, Sierra retook the lead before halftime as Kamari Baker forced a fumble that was recovered by Kaden Huppin and Wolverines quarterback Nigellus Irving took it 23 yards to the end zone on the first play making it 14-10.

Sierra had 21 first downs in the contest, but turned it over on downs five times, one of which was in the fourth quarter and led to Bear Cubs touchdown with nine minutes remaining. The Wolverines had two more offensive possessions, but threw an interception and turned it over on downs late in the fourth quarter.

Despite the loss, multiple players stepped up for the Wolverines such as receiver Dontae Robinson who caught 15 passes for 138 yards. On defense, Bradley Rankin recovered a fumble while Jamal Wallace had six tackles, two forced fumbles, two tackles for a loss and .5 sacks. Wallace is a sophomore and an alumnus of Ruskin High in Kansas City, Missouri.  

"I haven't seen my parents in a couple of years, so I wanted to give them a game they can remember and tell all the family about back at home," Wallace said. "The reason I've been having so much success is because of Coach Camp, he allows me to play wherever I feel comfortable at."

While the Wolverines struggled losing three straight games to close out the regular season, Sierra will still play in a bowl game against College of the Sequoias at home on Dec. 1 at 5 p.m.
