Hawks Unable to Finish Comeback, Fall in 4

Santa Rosa, CA - For the last game of the regular season, the Hawks traveled up to Santa Rosa to take on the hosting Bear Cubs (6-13). Being the last game of the year, the Bear Cubs were celebrating their sophomores prior to the beginning of the match. The defense for Santa Rosa was strong, keeping the offense for the Hawks from being able to catch momentum. Miah Williamson once again paced the Hawk offense by hitting .333 with 10 kills on 24 attempts. Aija Redding contributed 9 kills to help lighten the offensive load. Freshman Julia Zamfir had one of, if not her best game of the season with 8 kills to the tune of .350 hitting percentage. Both middles were the driving force for the Cosumnes River College offense. Both setters, Giovanna Parino and Grace Maddock, tallied 18 assists on the match.

Serving helped bring the Hawks back in the fourth set from a deficit. Maddy Motta stepped back to serve with the Hawks out of subsitutions and picked up 2 service aces while helping the Hawks go on a 4 point run to tie the set 23-23. The Hawks tallied 11 service aces on the match combined. Miah Williamson (3 aces), Giovanna Parino (2 aces), and Victoria Espinoza (2 aces) along with Maddy Motta helped keeped the Hawks aggressive from the serving line. However, serving was also the downfall for the Hawks. To go with the 11 service aces was 11 service errors. The errors helped stiffle any momentum the Hawks were able to gain with a majority of the aces coming at critical junctures in the match.

Defense was impressive for the Hawks as they combined for 122 digs compared to the 99 of SRJC, and 25 blocks compared to the 1 of SRJC. Aija Redding led the Hawks with 29 digs followed by the 23 of Victoria Espinoza. Giovanna Parino (19 digs) and Grace Maddock (11 digs) both tallied a double-double in the match. Kenzie Nies added another 12 digs of her own. The front line for the Hawks was a formidible opponent, combining for 25 blocks! Miah Williamson tallied 7 assisted blocks to add to her state leading total of 115 blocks. Maram Mahfouz combined for 6 assisted blocks of her own. Julia Zamfir tallied a solo block as well as 5 assisted blocks in the match. Maddy Motta chipped in with 4 assisted blocks of her own from the right side.
