Hawks Start Big 8 With 2-1 Win over Santa Rosa

Sacramento, Calif. With a late goal from freshmen forward Morgan Maddox the Lady Hawks start Big 8 play with a 1-0 record.

The Lady Hawks got on the board first when freshman forward Lucianna Casciaro crossed the ball in for freshman center back Ashley Blake. Blake lifted above all to get her head on the ball first and put the ball in the back of the net and the Hawks ahead 1-0. After a back in forth first half, with 5 minutes left, a controversial penalty kick was called against the home side. Santa Rosa was able to put it away and head into the second half all knotted up 1-1.

This did not discourage our Lady Hawks as they came out in the 2nd half on fire. Dominating the midfield and constantly attacking. After several close chances the Hawks finally got the one they had been waiting for all second half. On a long punt from sophomore goal keeper Sienna Jackson, she found freshmen forward Helaina Garcia who turned the center back and was able to find Morgan Maddox with an exquisite through ball that broke the back line down. Morgan Maddox cut the ball back on to her right foot and put the ball in the back of the net with a superb strike from 25 yards out to give the Lady Hawks a 2-1 victory.

Next up for the Lady Hawks, a much deserve bye as they look forward to hosting Modesto JC on Tuesday September 24th at 4pm.
