Falcon women return to form, dominate Santa Rosa

Prior to Tuesday's match, the Folsom Lake and Santa Rosa women's soccer teams had met nine times over the past 3-1/2 seasons with some interesting results:  two wins for Santa Rosa, three wins for FLC, there have been four ties, and never had there been more than two goals scored (combined) in any one match.  Tuesday's outcome was a dramatic change of script as the Falcons scored four first-half goals on their way to a dominating 5-0 win over the Bear Cubs.  Freshman forward Michaela Clark got the Falcons off to a quick start with a goal in the third minute of play, her team-leading 14th of the season.  Three minutes later, sophomore Sarah Scott put the Falcons up 2-0 with her first goal of the season.  Both early goals were assisted by Emma Thompson, who now leads the state in that category with 13.  Next, Sarah Freed rifled a long shot in the 27th minute and Emily Doty punched in her 8th goal of the season in the 42nd minute to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead at halftime.  The offensive onslaught was quite a turnaround from the Falcons' last match, a 1-0 loss to Delta in which they never got a shot on goal.  Sarah Freed added one more goal for the Falcons in the second half – her 10th of the season – as coach Ribaudo was able to find playing time for his entire squad.

The Falcons improved to 11-3-2 overall and 6-3-1 in Big 8 play and will play at Sacramento City (3-10-1 overall, 0-9 in Big 8) on Thursday evening.
