KNIGHTS SOFTBALL OPEN SEASON WITH THREE LOSES

SAN MATEO, Calif. – Shasta College's softball team lost an 11-0 game to American River in the season-opener before dropping a pair at San Mateo, losing 8-3 to Santa Rosa and 17-1 to San Mateo.

American River 11, Shasta 0 (5)
The Knights surrendered seven runs in the opening frame and allowed three more in the second en route to a shortened five-inning contest. Kiley Wendt had the lone hit for the Knights and was the only one to reach base. Whitney Carnes (0-1) took the loss after allowing nine earned runs and walking four in one inning pitched. Cora Peterson gave up one run on five hits in three innings.

Santa Rosa 8, Shasta 3
Shasta struck in the opening inning on Carnes' RBI single to score Macey Bunn. But the Bear Cubs used a two-run homer in the bottom half of the frame to jump ahead and didn't look back. Shasta twice on a fielder's choice and throwing error in the sixth. Peterson was 2 for 4 with a run, Bunn had a double and scored twice, Jadlyn Woolery was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a stolen base and Carnes was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Carnes (0-2) struck out 11 and walked five while allowing five earned runs on six hits in the complete game loss.

San Mateo 17, Shasta 1 (5)
Peterson (0-1) gave up 10 earned runs and walked four in one inning as San Mateo rolled. Shasta's lone run came in the fourth on Bunn's RBI single, scoring Khloe Forrister, who had the other hit for Shasta.
