Falcons fall to Santa Rosa, 3-2, in final Big 8 game of the season

Playing their final regular season game of 2022, the Folsom Lake and Santa Rosa softball teams appeared headed for extra innings on Tuesday afternoon in Santa Rosa with the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Falcon pitcher Adriana Gonzalez had been dominant and was working on a 1-hitter, having been victimized by two Falcon errors that allowed two runs to tie the game in the fourth inning.  But with one out in the seventh, the Bear Cubs put together back-to-back hits - a single followed by an RBI double - to stun the Falcons with the winning run.  The Falcons actually out-hit the Bear Cubs, 5-3, but couldn't seem to put their hits together.  Rightfielder Emily Thompson led the Falcons with two hits and Sydnee Chappell had the Falcons' lone RBI.

The Falcons finish the regular season with an overall record of 20-20, their first ever 20-win season.  They finished in a 3-way tie for fifth place in the Big 8 with Delta and American River at 10-14.  They'll await the results of the NorCal seeding meeting to find out their playoff opponent, but it appears they'll land the 10th seed and face #7 Fresno City.  More to come once it's official...
